Can You Trust Municipal Water filtration system

There is no town, city or metropolis that can function without some form of water filtration system facility or plant. Every home in a city is built on a designated residential zone where they have access to civic facilities such as water, electricity and gas. Water for example must be pumped from a water treatment plant. At these plants, water undergoes some form filtration process and disinfection before it is pumped to your home. The problem arises when water is in transit from these treatment plants to your home. This creates doubts as to the difference in quality of the water that arrives at your household faucet and the water which underwent filtration at the water plant. Water filtration system is the attempt at removing any unwanted compound or material that has a certain size. Water molecules have a diameter of 0.00029 microns. At this size, water molecules have a much smaller diameter than most pollutants that may be found in it. Precision techniques are available for water filtration system systems that do not remove all the pollutants. Reverse osmosis technology was designed for this type of application. Filtration systems using this form of technology have semi permeable membranes that have pores with diameters in the ten thousandths of a micron range. This makes these types of water filtration system units more effective against microscopic pollutants. Using the differences in pressure on either ends of the membrane, these filtration systems force tainted water to the filtering membrane. Short of distillation systems, reverse osmosis units are the most cost effective solution to household water needs.

Unfortunately, both these techniques require regular maintenance. Maintenance intervals are usually stipulated by the manufacturer of the water filtration system unit. It usually involves replacing the membrane of the unit, cleaning and complete replacement if need be. The cost if this can be very expensive especially if you are using a filtration system to tackle the wrong kind of contaminants. Always perform a water test first to determine which contaminants are found in your water supply.
